Project description
Over the years, researchers have attempted to make sustainable materials with advanced functionalities. Moreover, increasing demand of industry for high-performance materials led to the development of porous materials. Their applications are expected in almost all industries, such as optics, catalysis, drug delivery systems, coatings, cosmetics, bio-separation, diagnostics, gas-separation and nanotechnology. Yet, to date, almost no progress is reported on non-conventional synthesis concepts in non-siliceous mesoporous and mesostructures materials (carbon, metal oxides, polymers, and their hybrids). The time is now opportune for a new breakthrough in this area. Therefore, the present proposal aims to bring together young researchers in a dynamic team, with strong, complementary expertise in synthesis and characterization of various nanomaterials (Experienced Researchers and PostDocs) and the opportunity to co-supervise research student thesis contributing to their formation as researchers in the scientific field. By building on experience in inorganic (inert low-porous) and organic (polymers) materials with expertise in innovative synthesis of meso-porous/structured materials, a paradigm shift is possible in this area to expand horizons of new preparation procedures to non-silicious meso-porous/structured materials with advanced functionalities, whose use is essential in the area of high performance applications as sorption, (photo)catalysis and drug delivery.
